WHAT ARE EDEMAS?To understand what an oedema is we should explain what occurs under normal conditions and the water of the body. We can consider that the water of the organism is distributed in compartments: that which is found in the cells, that which is intracellular, that which is found in the vessels, intravascular, and that which stays between the two, interstitial. The interstitial and intravascular compartments form what is called the extra-cellular space. In normal conditions two-third of the organism can be found in the intracellular compartment and the other third in the extra-cellular space, being that a fifth of this is intravascular (plasmatic compartment) and the rest interstitial. Enemas are a sign that appear in multiple illnesses and manifests as an area of swelling in the soft tissue due to an excessive accumulation of liquid in the interstitial compartment. This liquid comes from the plasma and accumulates through the facilitation and passage from the vascular compartment to the interstitial.
