WHAT ARE THE PREDISPOSING FACTORS?Knowing the fact that being a woman determines, in itself, the predisposition for the appearance of cellulite, there are other factors that can facilitate its appearance or make it worse. These are the physiopathologic factors that facilitate the appearance of cellulite and its effects (adiposis, venolymphatic stasis and fibrosis): - Congenital: People with a family history of cellulite have a greater predisposition to suffer it themselves. - Racial: there is a greater incidence in whites (overall in the Mediterranean area) and blacks, less in Asians. - Hormonal: pregnancy, menopause and taking birth control in women; anti-androgenic treatment (oestrogen treatment for prostate cancer) or processes that make for a severe deficit of androgens (Klinefelter syndrome, orchitis sequelae, castration, etc.). Hormonal treatment with corticoids. Processes that normally cause hyperinsulinemia like Diabetes Mellitus Type 2, severe obesity, and polycystic ovarian syndrome. - Vascular and lymphatic: Venous or lymphatic insufficiency of any type, processes that accompany oedemas or cause water retention. - Others: Being overweight, being sedentary, stress and affective disorders, lack of sleep, tight clothing, bad eating habits rich in fats and salt, and carbohydrates. The consumption of alcohol and tobacco. IML - Paseo del General Martínez Campos, 33 - 28010 Madrid - Tlf. 91 702 46 27 - consulta@iml.es
