WHAT IS CELLULITE?The term cellulite is incorrect in that it only takes into account the inflammatory component (itis = inflammation) of the subcutaneous and adipose tissue. However, the name has survived over others that came before it that were much more explicit and willing substitutes. Currently, cellulite is defined as "vasculopathic dermopaniculosis" (according to Curri), in that a physiopathological cascade is seen affecting the skin, the subcutaneous cellular tissue and the vascular structures of the affected area. We will continue to use cellulite however, as it is the most popularly used term. Due to the fact that it imposes no serious risk to health, cellulite is not considered a potential danger to doctors; however it affects almost all of the female population and can provoke serious effects on the psychological situation of a woman.
