WHAT ABOUT PHYSICAL ACTIVITY?

Regular physical activity favours the use of fats and carbohydrates. Because of this, in trained individuals the intake of food may be higher without reaching positive energy balances and no weight gain. The individual's response to activities of moderate to high intensity varies; thus, low to moderate intensity exercise makes use mainly of fats both in the activity and recovery phase, whereas high intensity exercise makes use of carbohydrates.

La actividad física juega un papel crucial en la regulación del peso corporal y los depósitos de grasa.
Algunos estudios sugieren que la escasa actividad física puede ser responsable del desarrollo de obesidad.

The practice of physical activity in a sustained manner also results in a change in dietary preferences, observing greater consumption of carbohydrates in meals. Moreover, although exercise is believed to increase appetite, it appears that at short term both low and high intensity activity eventually reduce appetite.

In industrialised countries, the use of motor vehicles and transportation facilities, work and a sedentary life style make it difficult to maintain an adequate level of physical activity.
